David Müller, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, 1919
A striking feature of the last Bauhaus portfolio is the number of Die Brücke artists represented in it. Along with Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, members of this group of Expressionist artists from Dresden include Heckel, Pechstein and Schmidt-Rottluff. Kirchner’s contribution is a portrait of the Swiss farmer David Müller, from whom he rented an accommodation near the sanatorium in Davos, where he went for treatment after the war.
