Salmon-crested cockatoo (Cacatua moluccensis), Anselmus Boëtius de Boodt, 1596 - 1610
The ‘three large books’ assembled by De Boodt must have comprised a book each for plants, animals and birds. The bird album was probably damaged at a certain moment. Many of the original bird studies have a loss atone corner, usually the lower right, such as with this cockatoo. Damage suffered by that book may have prompted the 19th-century remounting campaign to make twelve albums.
