Description

Een groot schip vaart over het Noordzeekanaal door de Westzanerpolder. Het schip steekt modern af bij het volkstuintje op de voorgrond. Met de aanleg van het Noordzeekanaal werd in 1865 begonnen, omdat het Noordhollands Kanaal te klein bleek te zijn voor de snel groter wordende schepen. In 1883 werd het Noordzeekanaal als voltooid beschouwd. Het kanaal ligt in de provincie Noord-Holland en het water stroomt van Amsterdam naar IJmuiden. Het is 18,8 kilometer lang en 15,1 meter diep.
