Penseeltekening van een man, wellicht Brandes zelf, lezend in de vensterbank van denkelijk het VOC-schip Stavenisse op de route Batavia - Ceylon - Kaap de Goede Hoop. Boven de man zijn hoofd hangt, ingekleurd, een tros bananen. Onderdeel uit het schetsboek van Jan Brandes, dl. 2 (1808), p. 21.
