The Rijksmuseum is issuing an open invitation to everyone who wants to take part in its major summer exhibition – inspired by Rembrandt. Amateurs or professional artists, no matter what their age, are welcome to submit a self-made artwork. The Rijksmuseum is looking forward to showing hundreds of artworks at the Long Live Rembrandt exhibition, which will have its grand opening on 15 July 2019, Rembrandt’s birthday.

Submission and selection

Everyone is invited to get working on an artwork inspired by Rembrandt. That could mean just about anything. A modern version of one of his works, perhaps, or something that echoes the Rembrandt’s qualities and style. And it can take any form, whether that’s a painting, sculpture, photograph, or installation. Any sort of visual artwork can be submitted digitally between 1 February and 31 March 2019. There is just one condition: those who are selected for participation will be required to bring along their artwork to the Rijksmuseum for the final selection by a panel of judges. This selection process will start in April 2019. In a series of rounds, the jury made up of artists and Rijksmuseum curators and educators will assess the submissions according to three criteria: creativity, originality and technique.

The exhibition Long Live Rembrandt will run from 15 July to 15 September 2019 in Rijksmuseum’s Philips Wing.

2019 - The Year of Rembrandt in the Rijksmuseum
