AkzoNobel has been a Rijksmuseum sponsor since 2010. Together with paint manufacturer Sikkens, the company is the official supplier of all paint and decorative products for the Rijksmuseum.

It is thanks to the tremendous efforts and knowledge of Sikkens, as well as the collaboration with Stichting Restauratie Atelier Limburg and AkzoNobel's superlative range of paints, that Pierre Cuyper’s original wall and ceiling decorations could be restored to their former glory during the massive campaign to refurbish the Rijksmuseum. Using paint analyses of old paint remnants, it was possible to identify the composition of the original pigments and reproduce them in the original matt colours used in 1885, thus unveiling the decorative scheme of the Rijksmuseum once more.
