Widow Sara de Bie was the second wife of Johannes Lutma, whom she married in 1638. At the time it was a rarity for an artist to be portrayed with his wife. Together, they transformed the workshop and shop into the leading establishment of its type in Amsterdam. It became the go-to destination for the Amsterdam city council and various other local institutions seeking fashionable silver adorned with intricate decoration.
