Men Attending a Cockfight, Venezuela, Hendrik ter Keurs, 1936 - 1937
Henk ter Keurs looked for oil for the Caribbean Petroleum Company (Shell). His quest took him via Curaçao and Caracas to the inland of Venezuela. For his work he used a seismograph, and for himself a camera. He took close to 400 photographs charting the country, the inhabitants, the journey, and the encampment. Though an amateur, Ter Keurs recorded the Venezuelans here as an accomplished documentary photographer.
