Isabel was the darling of the Wachenheimer family. She plays the leading role in the family albums. In the photograph at the lower right Isabel’s grandmother Mathilde sits diagonally behind her. In April 1943 Isabel’s parents were deported to Theresienstadt. Fourteen-year-old Isabel remained in Amsterdam with Mathilde. They were rounded up in June 1943 and deported to Westerbork. Mathilde was executed in the Sobibor death camp on 23 July.
