inscription: ‘Land en water hagedisje, waare groote, het leeft langs de slooten van vliegen en wormen; men vind ze menigvuldig. zij zyn niet heel schuuw, doen de menschen geen kwaad, maar hun beet is vergiftig, hebben schubben als de visschen, klimmen ook op de boomen, en wanneer hun de staart afgesmeeten word groeid ze weeder om aan, gelyk het by de huyshagedis (tjitja) ook geschied. Batavia den 28 Febr 1785, hebben een geduurig uit en ingaande twee spitsige tong. loopen zeer snel.’
