Villa am Strand, Lyonel Feininger, 1920
Villa am Strand features a classicist house that establishes a synthesis with nature and the universe. Lyonel Feininger was the head of the school’s printmaking workshop and the artistic director of the Bauhaus portfolio production. Director Gropius wanted to present the ideas of the Bauhaus as a group to an international audience. The first Bauhaus portfolio contains two prints by each of the first seven teachers who were appointed to the school.
