Patent model of a ladder consisting of two parts.1 The spindle and crank are attached to the brace of the extending part. A small wheel is fitted at the top of each leg. The Obreen catalogue entry mentions a pole and a life box fitted to the extending part, but they are now missing; remainders of the fittings can still be discerned.
Petrus van der Loo (1806-1864) obtained a five-year patent for his improvements to ladders2 in 1850. His model was shown at the Exposition Universelle of 1855 in Paris.3
