Hexagonal pewter powder chest.
The chest has a double lid, both lids are round. The inner one has a ring on top, the outer one opens and turns laterally on a hinge; it fastens with a bayonet catch. The chest has a rope handle.
These powder chests, known as ‘prismatic’ powder chests, were not accepted by the Dutch Navy. This chest was the largest one that was proposed.1
