Right-handed gunlock (flintlock) mounted on a dummy breech of an 18-pounder gun.
The lock has a brass box with iron mechanism, cock and pan cover. It is mounted with a pin at the forward end and a bolt in the middle.
This lock is identical to model NG-MC-696. Flintlocks for cannon were introduced to the Dutch Navy after 1810. This type was replaced by percussion locks around 1840. Models of this kind were sent to Liège, in order to pass on the correct measurements for the vent patch before casting the cannon.
