Rigged hollowed out wooden block model of a two-masted, flat-bottomed vessel, mounted on a stand.
Parts of the deck can be removed to reveal the interior which is completely panelled. It has a rounded bow and stern, the sternpost is sharply raked. The model is fitted with a broad rudder with afterpieces, a decorated rudder head and a wooden tiller. The sheer rises towards both ends, the model has one wale and leeboards. The model is fitted with two anchors, a windlass, four water barrels, a chimney for the galley, two oars, two pumps, two companionways and a main hatch. The model has a one-and-a-half gaff rig without sails, with bowsprit and an outrigger. A blue pilot flag flies from the mainmast.
This model was made by Cornelis over de Linden after a pilot vessel built by Teunis Planteijdt (1769-1849) in Egmond aan Zee from 1836 to 1837. This type of vessel, built specifically for the pilot service, was called a ‘rinkelaar’. Over de Linden was awarded a silver medal by the Rotterdam Yacht Club for this model in 1852.
