Polychromed and rigged wooden block model of a three-masted ship, mounted on a stand.
Twenty-two guns are mounted on one deck, the quarterdeck and forecastle have no guns. The beakhead carries a crowned rampant lion as a figurehead. The stern has a round tuck, a hollow counter, a taffrail and single-storey quarter galleries, decorated with carvings of foliage and one lantern. The model has a straight, square-headed rudder and a steering wheel on the quarterdeck. A ship’s bell, a chimney of the galley, a capstan and two anchors are fitted on the model. The sheer rises towards both ends. Two wales and a sheer rail are indicated. The hull is S-bottomed and is painted white below the waterline. The three-masted rigging carries no sails, the mizzen has a lateen yard.
Jochem Pietersz Asmus (1755-1837) bought this model for his private collection sometime before 1807.3 The model represents the 24-gun frigate Eendragt, 120 or 125 feet long and built by Willem Lodewijk van Gent in Harlingen in 1769. The vessel operated mainly in the Mediterranean and was shipwrecked on a sandbank in the Vlie in 1782.4
