Model of a ship’s galley for the main deck, painted black.
The model is a simple cube with iron walls, standing on small feet with holes in them, that enable it to be bolted to the deck, and with double doors with a bolt and lock to the front. The floor has two levels, the back slightly higher than the front. At the front there is a grating with movable irons. The roof is slightly slanted and has a chimney. Inside, against the walls, hooks on which chains can be hung are indicated.
According to Obreen this galley design was proposed in 1780 and was to be placed on the main deck.1 The cook could lock himself inside the galley to protect himself from rain and spray.
Scale unknown.
