Model of a masting crane, mounted on a wooden base.
The model consists of a wooden structure with an inclined crane, the head overhanging the quay side. The head has two sheaves for the tackle, which is missing. On the crane legs steps for climbing and a double railing have been indicated. Two capstans and two knightheads have been placed behind the crane.
Apart from some minor construction details and the joinery, this model is identical to model NG-MC-34. This model represents the crane used for stepping masts on the Navy dockyard of Hellevoetsluis, before the sheer was installed in 1818.1 It resembles the crane on a coloured engraving by Jan Bulthuis from 1738 with a view of Hellevoetsluis.2
