Hollowed out block model of an anchor buoy for a mooring anchor.
The model has an onion-shaped body with its point facing downwards and a flat top; it is covered with hoops, across which the outer frames are set. Two main frames cross each other on the flat top. Shackles are fitted to both the top and bottom. The interior, which has two levels, can be inspected through a small manhole.
Obreen calls this model a ‘corps mort’.1 Buoys of this kind were used for the mooring anchors in the harbour of Nieuwediep (now Den Helder).2
Scale (derived) 1:10.
