Model of a differential pulley.
A differential pulley or tackle consists of an endless chain going over two sheaves of different diameter at the top and a single sheave with a hook below. The difference in diameter between the two top sheaves implies that, when pulling the end coming from the larger sheave, less chain is fed to the lower sheave (over the smaller sheave) than is removed, and the distance between the two tackle blocks is diminished. This particular model is also fitted with a driving wheel with an endless rope, which transfers its movement to the tackle through a set of toothed wheels at a ratio of 58:10.
