Model of a cover for ships, reconstructed.
Two parts were found separately: the base, representing the deck of a ship in cross section, and the roofing of corrugated iron with brass trusses. Four trusses on the exterior of the gunwale support the curved roofing, and one truss in the middle on deck.
The roofing was found separated from the base, which is labelled ‘1076’; the reconstruction therefore remains uncertain. The archival documents relating to the model have not yet been recovered.
The cover was designed as a shelter during storms. It draws its strength from the tension of the curved roofing.
