Top Ten on Tour

October 4 2017 to March 25 2018

This exhibition brings together ten important acquisitions from the collections of the Mauritshuis, Kröller-Müller Museum, Van Gogh Museum and Rijksmuseum, all purchased with the support of participants in the BankGiro Lottery. By mounting this exhibition, the four museums wish to highlight the value of new acquisitions for the Netherlands and of the financial support they jointly receive from private and corporate donors, charitable funds and public funding.

Her Majesty Queen Máxima was welcomed and taken on a guided tour of the display by Emilie Gordenker (director of the Mauritshuis), Lisette Pelsers (director of the Kröller-Müller Museum), Adriaan Dönszelmann (managing director of the Van Gogh Museum) and Hendrikje Crebolder (director of Development & Media at the Rijksmuseum), joined by Jet Bussemaker, Dutch Minister of Education, Culture and Science, and Boudewijn Poelmann, chairman of the Board of the BankGiro Lottery.

Vital support

New acquisitions ensure that a museum collection continues to evolve. Even a single good acquisition can give a collection a whole new outlook. In addition, new acquisitions guarantee that important artworks remain accessible to the Dutch public and are preserved for future generations. It is thanks to the support of participants in the BankGiro Lottery (the Netherlands’ cultural lottery) and funds such as the Rembrandt Association, VSB Fund, societies of friends and public funding from organizations like the Mondriaan Fund that museums in the Netherlands are able to purchase important artworks.

Pop-up exhibition

The exhibition Top Ten on Tour: Masterpieces acquired for the Netherlands thanks to the BankGiro Lottery showcases works by artists including Rembrandt, Appel, Steen, Monet and Picasso.
