Judas

Judas Iscariot was a disciple of Jesus and judging from the Bible he was an unpleasant man. He was miserly, greedy and dishonest. He stole from the other apostles’ moneybag. His worst offence was his betrayal of his spiritual leader. The Jewish priests and elders who wanted to dispose of Jesus bribed Judas by offering him a reward of 30 pieces of silver. In return, Judas told them where to find Jesus.

During the last meal with his disciples Christ predicted that one of them would betray him. In numerous depictions of the Last Supper, Judas is visually singled out as the culprit and shown standing or seated apart from the other apostles. Judas identified Jesus to the soldiers by giving him a kiss when they met in the Garden of Gethsemane. Jesus was subsequently arrested. According to Matthew the Evangelist, Judas later regretted his treason and committed suicide.
