The Rijksmuseum presents 100 Renaissance portraits, from Dürer to Sofonisba
Never before have so many European Renaissance portraits been brought together in the Netherlands – portraits of powerful emperors, flamboyant aristocrats and well-to-do citizens. Throughout the 15th and 16th centuries, increasing numbers of people commissioned portraits of themselves. This autumn the Remember Me exhibition at the Rijksmuseum presents more than 100 masterpieces by artists such as Memling, Dürer, Holbein, Titian and Veronese. Remember Me is about ambition, desire and loss, and about people who wanted to be remembered.
Rijksmuseum to stage the largest Vermeer exhibition ever

In the spring of 2023, the Rijksmuseum, the national museum of the Netherlands, will dedicate a retrospective exhibition to the 17th-century master Johannes Vermeer for the first time in its history. With loans from all over the world, this promises to be the largest Vermeer exhibition ever. The Rijksmuseum itself has four masterpieces by Vermeer, including the world-famous Milkmaid and The Little Street.

Rijksmuseum appoints Niels van Maanen as Curator of 20th- And 21st-Century Prints and Drawings

The Rijksmuseum has appointed Niels van Maanen as its Curator of 20th- And 21st-Century Prints and Drawings. He succeeds Alied Ottevanger who retired last month. Niels van Maanen previously curated several displays at the Rijksmuseum including the current one devoted to Robert Mapplethorpe.
The Rijksmuseum and Dell Technologies join forces to share the entire collection with the world digitally

The Rijksmuseum and Dell Technologies have a shared mission to make art and history accessible to all. In the coming two years, we will work together on the further digitising, preserving and opening up of the Rijksmuseum collection. Dell will also be supplying the technology and facilities for data management and smart working during and after the pandemic.
The Night Watch taken down from wall for final phase of research

The Night Watch is removed from its usual position on the wall and placed at the front of the transparent glass chamber. This event marks the start of the final stage of the research phase of Operation Night Watch, the largest ever project devoted to the examination and restoration of Rembrandt’s masterpiece. The Night Watch has now been secured in a specially designed holder so that the Rijksmuseum researchers can study the back of this enormous painting. Visitors can now come closer to The Night Watch than ever before and it offers a rare opportunity to view the rear of The Night Watch, which will remain on display in this way until 23 November 2021.
