Rijksmuseum internships

The Rijksmuseum is an international knowledge and learning institution that is open to the public and that brings students, knowledge, art and history together. As an international knowledge and learning institution, the Rijksmuseum promotes mutual knowledge exchange in all disciplinary fields in which the museum is active, and offers internship opportunities at the broadest possible range of education levels, from secondary vocational through academic university education.

General information

The Rijksmuseum offers opportunities for students to gain work and/or research experience within the context of their degree or training programme, providing focused, professional supervision. The aim of all internships is to enable students to build relevant work and/or research experience. The Rijksmuseum’s internships are designed to a high educational standard, developing students’ knowledge, skills and professional competency and equipping them to work as independent practitioners.

Conditions for internships at the Rijksmuseum are that they count towards a recognized training or degree programme (secondary or tertiary level) and have a duration of at least three months to at most one year. Per year, approximately 50 to 55 internship positions are offered museum-wide. These positions are open to all qualifying applicants and are announced on the website. The Rijksmuseum’s internship policy seeks to foster diversity, and the museum therefore also invites international students to apply. Applicants with EU citizenship do not need a residence or work permit to seek employment or live in the Netherlands. Non-EU nationals wishing to do an internship at the Rijksmuseum must obtain a work permit within the applicable deadline and satisfy the museum’s terms and guidelines.
