Frederick Henry (1584-1647), Prince of Orange, Henri Toutin, c. 1647 - c. 1650
enamel on gold (peinture émail), h 4.3cm × w 3.4cm More details
Henri Toutin made this mourning medallion of Prince Frederick Henry shortly after his death. Toutin and his father Jean were the first goldsmiths to paint miniature portraits in enamel. The subtle stipple technique is typical of their work. The back of the medallion evidences a more traditional use of enamelwork, with a floral motif and the monogram HAVO.
