Italianate Landscape with Pines, Hendrik Voogd, 1795

oil on canvas, h 72.5cm × w 90cm More details

In 1788 the financial support of an Amsterdam art patron allowed Hendrik Voogd to travel to Rome, where he joined the colony of international artists. This painting, the artist’s earliest known work, is a good example of his speciality: the campagna landscape around Rome, dotted with ancient remains, painted in a cool, clear light.
