Gold! And pink bows, flowers, lots of lace, and white aprons. All children of the rich could wear these clothes and accessories in the 16th and 17th centuries. Only their first names – Helena and Jacoba – reveal that these children were presented as daughters.

Portret van Helena van der Schalcke als kind. Dochter van Johanna Bardoel en Gerard van der Schalcke. Later getrouwd met Nicolaes Eichelberg. Staande, ten voeten uit, met een rieten mandje of tas om de arm en een anjer in de hand.
