Hunters Resting, Dirk Stoop, c. 1650 - c. 1655
Two hunters and their hounds have stopped in a mountainous landscape. The horseman blows his hunting horn, signalling their departure. His companion pulls on his boots, while a servant holds on to a pissing horse. The rich brown tones and the golden light of the low-lying sun suggest a warm summer day. The use of such colours was typical of landscape painters who had travelled to Italy.
