Spangled Cotinga (Cotinga cayana), Anselmus Boëtius de Boodt, 1596 - 1610
De Boodt probably assembled his ‘three large albums’ as follows: one for plants, one for animals and one for birds. The bird album became damaged – as evidenced here by the missing lower right corner – which led to the rebinding of all of the drawings in the 19th century. Unlike some of the other drawings of birds, this one of a colourful South American songbird remained intact.
