In the early 19th century, the mayor of Bruges, Van Huerne, had the Historia Naturalis rebound. The drawings were pasted onto pages provided with framing lines along with the name of each living thing and species inscribed in the Dutch, Latin and French forms of the time. Although it was apparently assumed that number 1 would be identified, this line remained blank. We still do not know which flower is depicted here.
