Design for the Plaque of a Collier-de-chien, René Lalique, c. 1901 - c. 1903
René Lalique was the greatest and most innovative French Art Nouveau jewellery artist. The design was his principal consideration, and he selected his materials for their expressive qualities. He rarely used large gemstones. This enamelled plaque was the principal ornament of a tight-fitting necklace consisting of numerous rows of tiny pearls.
