Design for a Medallion with Cupid, Henri Cameré, c. 1864 - c. 1894
In the 16th century this type of medallion (agrafe) was mostly worn by men and fastened to the brim of their hats. In terms of its form, this design for a gold and colourfully enamelled medallion was inspired by examples from the Renaissance. However, the kneeling Cupid armed with bow and arrow lends this design that touch of romance that people were so fond of in the 19th century.
