Set Design for In Holland staat een huis (A House Stands in Holland), Pyke Koch, 1936
Pyke Koch made this gouache as a set design for a play written by Martinus Nijhoff and Anton van Duinkerken in 1936 on the occasion of the wedding of Princess Juliana and Prince Bernhard. The dramatic clouds, through which the sun is breaking, stand out sharply against the clear blue sky. Koch’s set designs are not that different from his independent work, in which enigmatic themes and theatrical illumination often create a charged atmosphere.
