This sensuous depiction is from the Balagopalastuti manuscript, a poetic text in praise of Krishna. This blueskinned god of compassion and love is one of the most revered Hindu deities. Lord Krishna embraces Radha, his beloved lover, looking at her amorously. Enhanced by this illustration, the texts on both sides of this folio paint vivid images of Krishna.

Description

Er zijn twee van deze voorstellingen op een passepartout geplakt; op deze onderste omhelst Krishna Radha, ernaast een tekst in Sanskriet, uit de Balagopalastuti. Het tweede van twee bladen met voorstellingen uit de Balagopalastuti; beschadigingen op de achterkant overgeplakt met wit.
