Krishna Uprooting the Arjuna Trees, anonymous, c. 1800
The tenth book of the Bhagavatapurana portrays the young Krishna in endearing ways. Here, he is seen dragging a mortar and uprooting two trees to free two demi-gods from their cursed metamorphosis. Typical for this manuscript, the inscriptions written in white identify the main characters, who are often depicted more than once on the same folio. The corresponding text is given on the verso.
