Chand Bibi of Ahmadnagar (16th century) is one of the few queens who successfully wielded power. She protected her kingdom from the Mughal imperial armies. There are no surviving pictures of her made during her lifetime, but the valiant warrior queen became a favourite subject in the 18th century. She is almost always depicted hawking and never while defending the city of Ahmadnagar, her main feat of arms.
