Saftleven put a lot of attention to the richly ornamented dress with its tassels and grand draperies. Compared to other early drawings by Saftleven, the lines in the present sheet are sketchier and have richer contrast.2 This unidentified woman is clearly someone of stature, her expression unrevealing of her thoughts.
