Two Studies of a Woman Sitting in a Landscape, Matthijs Maris, c. 1874 - c. 1875
In Paris Maris did not make fully worked-up studies, instead he sketched figures and tried out compositions, as can be seen here. In the top part of this sheet a girl tending goats can be discerned twice amidst the jumble of lines. In the bottom half Maris drew a composition sketch for the painting Girl with Goats, also on view in this gallery.
