Jacques de Gheyn regularly ventured out into nature, taking chalk and paper with him. On one of his walks he recorded the contours of this tree with just a few black chalk lines. Once back in his studio, De Gheyn worked up the sketch further with pen and ink.

Description

Een in pen, gedetailleerd getekende half ontkroonde boom. Rechts zit een man op een grote wortel met zijn rug naar de toeschouwer. Rechts een tweede boom licht getekend met zwart krijt. Verso, dezelfde boom van de andere kant gezien, ook in pen, met verschillende bomen rondom getekend in krijt.
