Moses and the Burning Bush, David Vinckboons, c. 1609 - c. 1611
This is a design for a – now long vanished – stainedglass window in the Zuiderkerk in Amsterdam. The window was commissioned by the cobblers and tanners’ guild. In the desert Moses sees a burning bush that is not consumed by the flames. When he draws near to investigate this unnatural phenomenon he hears the voice of God, who commands him to remove his sandals because he is standing on hallowed ground.
