View of Nijmegen with a Ferryboat on the River, Hendrik Hoogers, 1785
The artist made this coloured drawing from his studio, which afforded him a view of the Waal River. The drawing’s personal character is fairly unusual. This may have to do with its maker, Hendrik Hoogers, who did not draw for the market, but for his own pleasure. He also ran a tannery and was politically active in Nijmegen.
