Hailing from Rotterdam, Simon de Vlieger was foremost a landscape and marine painter, but he occasionally also drew the animals he came across on his outdoor excursions. This drawing shows a pig from the side, and an alternative study of its head, seen more from the front. He also made various prints featuring pigs, ducks, cats and dogs.
