A Domestic Quarrel, Gesina ter Borch, c. 1652
This marital squabble has got quite out of hand. The man brandishes a fire iron above his head, while the woman swings her shoe and grabs his hair. No wonder his hat has fallen to the ground. This highly original and witty composition is a preliminary study for an illustration in the Poëzie-album (Poetry Album) accompanying a poem about good and bad marriages.
