Rembrandt and his pupils may have attended sessions of the Amsterdam college of painters, where they were able to sketch male and female nude models from life. To stay warm, the models sat by a stove. This woman appears in various poses in drawings by Rembrandt and his pupil Arent de Gelder, who studied with Rembrandt from 1661 to 1663.
