Maria met het Christuskind op schoot op een ezel. Jozef loopt ernaast. Zij kijken om naar drie herders met een kudde schapen. In de takken van de palmboom een aantal putti en engelen. Onderaan de opdracht van Rossi aan Luigi Pio in het Italiaans.
