During a feast on Olympus, Ixion tries to seduce Hera. Her husband Zeus prevents this by sending the cloud Nephele in the guise of Hera to couple with Ixion. Here, the real Hera looks on from the left. The adjacent drawing served as a model for this print, which was published in Haarlem, probably after Rubens’ death in 1640.
