While there are numerous depictions of Apollo and the nine muses, these ones are exceptional. In Greek mythology, Apollo is the god of music and harmony and his sisters, the muses, are the goddesses of art and science and symbols of inspiration. Le Blond portrayed each of them separately, making music. Dressed and coiffed according to the latest Parisian fashion around 1630, they have thus become contemporary.
