Rebecca and Eliezer at the Well, Barbara van den Broeck, after Chrispijn van den Broeck, c. 1580 - c. 1585
Using a burin, a sharp engraving tool, Barbara van den Broeck transferred her father’s drawn designs to a copper plate. This detailed representation showcases her refined engraving technique. She applied subtle effects of light and shadow and convincingly rendered volumes by means of a varied line pattern. The print on view here is a proof before the addition of an inscription and signatures in the margin.
