etching, h 228mm × w 153mm More details

Light brown, naturally wavy hair, a spirited appearance, a shapely figure, but not too big, and the bearing of a princess. This is how Sophia of the Palatinate described herself at a young age. In 1656 she was 26 and living at the court of her brother, Elector Palatine Charles Louis, in Heidelberg. Vaillant, a highly soughtafter portraitist, immortalized her at the same time as Charles Louis and their sister Elisabeth.
